Dachshund Breed Standard Amendment

March 13th 2016

The National Dachshund Council, last October, wrote to the ANKC in regards to the incorrect “image description” on the cover page of the Dachshund Breed Standard residing on the ANKC website.
The “image description” previously read Pre 1987 Kennel Club, London which was the title of six separate standards, one for each variety.
In 1994 the Kennel Club, London adopted one single Dachshund Breed Standard.
In 2009 the ANKC adopted the 1994 Kennel Club, London Dachshund Breed Standard after a national plebiscite was conducted.

The ANKC has responded to the NDC letter by issuing advice to their member bodies as follows:

Please note the ‘Image Description’ on the breed standard of the Dachshund has been amended as follows in accordance with a request received by the National Breed Standards Coordination Group Chairperson, Marie Merchant from the National Dachshund Council (Australia):

Currently read:

Pre 1987 Kennel Club, London

Amended to read:

Standard adopted by Kennel Club, London 1994

Standard adopted by ANKC 2009

News from the ANKC

February 4th 2016

The following memo has been issued by Dogs Queensland in regards to highly undesirable colours in breed standards:-

At the October 2015 ANKC Ltd Board Meeting, it was resolved to include on any Breed Standard stating that ‘highly undesirable’, in terms of colour, is to be interpreted as not acceptable for inclusion on the Main Register.
Subsequent to this meeting, it was agreed that 1 January 2017 would be the implementation date for that resolution and that prior to that date, the Breed Standards Co-ordination Group would report to the Board on the implications of implementing this decision.
This means that currently, there has been no change to the registration of dogs of a highly undesirable colour listed in the standard and as such, all State Member Bodies have been requested to continue to place dogs on the Main Register exactly as was done up until 31 December 2015.
The National Breed Standards Co-ordination Group is presently looking at this and will submit a report to the first available Board Meeting so that Directors can determine whether the original motion will come into effect on 1 January 2017 or whether some other course of action will be taken.

2016 Brisbane Royal News

2016 Royal Queensland Show
Canine Competition
Dear Exhibitor

The RNA is delighted to announce a new Australian first judging system will be in place for the 2016 Royal Queensland Show Canine Competition.
This revolutionary system means dogs will be judged in their group on one day using two international judges.
The group specials will be judged at the end of each day with Best in Group, Runner-Up, Puppy, Baby, and Neuter to come back on the last Saturday for General Specials.
The obedience classes will be held over two afternoons while Dances with Dogs, Rally Obedience and Agility will all be held on the last day of show.
This is a first for the Royal Shows in Australia and reinforces our commitment to making the Ekka the most exhibitor friendly event by streamlining the competition.
It also ensure that exhibitors can plan ahead knowing that all group judging will take place in a single day, unlike previous years where the group judging has been split across several days.
The Specialty Show this year will focus on the Toy Breeds in Group 1 and will be held on Friday 12 August 2016.
We have taken on board your suggestions from this year’s show and are working towards making sure the Ekka offers the best show experience for our exhibitors and their canines.
For the first time we are also able to release the schedule complete with information on the judges and the timetable before Christmas.
Please note the regulations will be added to the schedule once entries open in April 2016.
If you or your breed club is interested in sponsoring a class or group, please visit the website to register your interest here
If you have any queries please feel free to contact our Competitions and Events Co-Ordinator Kelly Barnett entries@royalqueenslandshow.com.au
On behalf of the RNA Canine Committee we wish all our exhibitors and their families a Merry Christmas and very happy New Year
Sincerely
Lionel Blumel
Councillor in Charge

Item from the ANKC AGM Board Minutes from their October 2015 meeting.

Breed Standards – Amendment

It was resolved that in reference to colour, a note be included on any breed standard stating that ‘highly undesirable’ is to be interpreted as not acceptable for inclusion on the Main Register.

As the Dachshund Breed Standard states that:-

Pied, tricolour and the dilute colours isabella and blue are highly undesirable.

the ANKC amendment will apply to all Dachshunds of these colours.
